How To Install Hinges On A Door

Even a simple job as this could easily cost $200 if you hired a carpenter to do it.With the economy and job situation the way it is, it could well be worth the try to do it yourself.

Tools needed

  1. The best way to start is to remove the door from the jam and remove the old hinges from the door and jamb. Most of the time the new hinges will not fit in the old mortise.
  2. You need to check the depth and size of the new hinges and make sure they match the old ones. If they do not then you will have to lay the new ones on top of the old mortise and mark around it with a very sharp pencil. Take the chisel and make the new mortise the same as the new hinges making sure the depth is right for the new hinges to lay flush with the surface
  3. Drill the new holes to match the new hinges and screw in place.
