How To Care For Your Lawn Mower
Maintaining your lawnmower entails several responsibilities, from changing the oil to replacing the blade.
First, here’s a small checklist for lawnmower maintenance.
- It’s typically recommended that you change the oil in a new mower after 2 or 3 mowings and then at least once a year
- I recommend that you change the oil at the beginning of the year and then change it every 25 hours of operation. However, check the owners manual for recommendation specific to your mower
- Replace the spark plug
- Clean the air filter
- Check all of the moving parts to see that they are operating smoothly and correctly.
- Check all nuts and bolts being sure that they are tight and haven’t vibrated loose.
- If you’ve started noticing any vibration in your mower it’s probably because the blade is starting to get out of balance from wear or damage. That vibration is just about the worst thing for your mower. Nuts and bolts that hold other important parts of the mower in place start to work loose and before you know it your trying to figure out why it won’t start. Sharpening the blade can cause it to get out of balance if you sharpen more on one side than the other, so if you don’t feel comfortable with sharpening your blade properly, be sure to install a new blade each year or at the first sign of imbalance.
